Nuevo Progreso is an interesting border town. Its main draw is for U.S. citizens needing dental work or prescription drugs. Everywhere I looked was dental offices and pharmacies. We ask around and found the going rate for a tooth crown is around $200. You can get just about any U.S. prescription drug over the counter there. Getting the meds back in to the U.S. is where the problem arises. I believe I’ll stick with U.S. prescribed meds.

In line to park on the U.S. side of the border. It costs $2 to park and $1 to enter Mexico. Notice the big warning sign. No weapons or ammo allowed. The cartels must be exempt.

Mary on the U.S. side of the Rio Grande International Bridge.

Me on the Mexico side of the bridge.

We had lunch Tony’s Bar and Grill in Nuevo Progresso. They had a stage coach in the lobby!

Mary and I celebrated our 35th wedding anniversary today. Ground Hog day. Mary says if the ground hog sees its shadow, she’ll keep me for another year. So far, so good. I make sure there is always a bright light behind the ground hog. We celebrated at Red Lobster. Mary loves steamed crag legs.

A good friend of mine, Kent Risley, from my life long home church in Edmond, Oklahoma came to McAllen. Kent is the Executive Minister at the Edmond Church of Christ in Edmond, Oklahoma. Each year Kent overseas the spring break mission trip to McAllen, Texas. Prior to the trip, Kent, along with a few other members, meet with Humberto Hernandez and plan the projects the mission trip participant will work on while in McAllen. I went along with them the day they were here. I really enjoyed seeing Kent and the others.
After visiting the possible project locations, we had lunch at Luby’s. Here are a few pictures from lunch that day.

Humberto Hernandez is the local minister at the Church of Christ in Alamo, Tx. The address is 307 Owasso Rd, Alamo, Texas. Jeremy Robertson is the Youth and Family minister at the Edmond Church of Christ

The park hosted an Alamo Fire\Police department RC car race. RC car races ares weekly events for the park. This week was a competition between the Alamo Fire and Police departments. The Fire Department won!

Here’s the start of one of the 10 lap races. They all start out going one direction but don’t always end up that way.

It’s a photo finish!

Mary picked the winners before the races started. Here’s the proof.

Mary and I went out today to do a little shopping. We stopped by Ultra for “stuff” and then went to Sam’s. I got my Sam’s fix. I do like looking around Sam’s. It kinda felt like home. The layout at the Sam’s here was almost identical to Edmond’s store. For just a second I was a little confused when we walked out to the parking lot. The parking lot is quite different.

We can’t have fun everyday! Today was chore day! Tim did laundry at the RV resort laundry mat and I cleaned the trailer. I clean better than Tim so he gets laundry detail. We also made another run to the Dollar Store. I can’t believe the number of times we go there because it is close by.
Saturday, the 21st, we went to a hispanic grocery store called Juniors. There was a large selection of Mexican foods. We have been to Juniors, HEB, and Walmart and no prime meat to be found. Juniors had a huge meat counter. Beef is sliced very thin, either plain or marinated. Same for various poultry cuts. Juniors is where you can also buy an entire head of a pig or cow . YUM!

Went to the Brownsville Zoo today. Very nice zoo. The flamingos were on of the first exhibits.

Nice areas to sit in the shade and cool off. Yes it was a little hot in Brownsville today. Mid 80s.

The lions were taking their mid morning naps.

Saw this old guy at the zoo. Was told he is indigenous the the area during the winter.

Not much happening the last few days. Doing the normal cleaning, laundry, washed my truck, grocery shopping etc..
We did do the Edmond Church of Christ online service Sunday. As always, it was a good sermon.
We plan on going to the Brownsville Zoo this week. Mary loves Zoos.
January 12 – Did some hiking at Bentsen Rio Grande State Park. They have paved and natural trails. Nice park with good facilities. You pass right by an under construction border wall. I’ll get some pictures next time. I left my phone in my truck. Bummer!
